“DENVER” by Ken Arkind /Illustrated by Charly Fasano

Image

Denver is a chapbook-length poem by Ken Arkind illustrated by a collection of linocut block prints by Charly the city mouse Fasano. Denver is a meticulous tour of a city cursed by its history and geography. It is a bar by bar, neighborhood by neighborhood walk of triggered memories and self-destruction. Denver is about a city that continually attempts to search for an identity, but in doing so, collectively buries its true character in the bottom of a glass and passes out before last call.

Ken Arkind is an American National Poetry Slam Champion, Tedx Fellow, Nuyorican Poets Cafe Grand Slam Champion and published poet who has performed his work in 49 States, 6 countries and at over 150 colleges and universities.  He is the current Executive Director and head coach of Denver Minor Disturbance, an independent literary arts organization dedicated to helping Colorado youth find voice through the mediums of poetry and performance.

This is a project that started with linocut prints for the Open Season Invitational group art show at Standard Art Supply in Ithaca, NY on October 13, 2012. It’s a annual group show that has a hunting season theme. These three prints are based on the idea of drunken squirrel hunting. They are printed on stretched canvas Listen to the poem – “Drunk Hunter, Quicker Squirrel” and check out the hand made book I made.
